There is good evidence on what works to prevent violence against women and girls, and the time has come to turn this evidence into action, delegates heard at the Regional Conference on the Prevention of Violence against Women and Girls in Southern Africa.

Delegates from all over the world, and particularly from the Southern African Development Community region, attended the conference, held in Johannesburg on 4 and 5 December 2019.

Gender-based violence is the most common form of violence the world-over.

Closing the conference, Partnerships for Prevention Regional Technical Adviser Begoña Castro Vázquez said the two days of deliberations had made it abundantly clear that by working together, governments, civil society and the private sector can leverage their resources to ensure programmes aim at addressing the root causes of violence against women and girls have greater scale and impact.
